Sola Akingbola new funky roots EP ‘How Should I’, is out now! Just released today, October, 25th, 2024, this is part 1 of the album. The second part will be released in the spring of 2025. Born in Nigeria, Akingbola then grew up in the UK and he says that this album bridges that gap between his origins and upbringing. “This album is a bridge between my Nigerian heritage and my British upbringing. It’s a celebration of cultural fusion and the power of music to transcend boundaries”.
‘How Should I’ is Sola Akingbola’s second full length album. But before his personal music, Sola found fame as the percussionist in the Grammy award winning band Jamiroquai. He’s also a composer for the CBS sitcom ‘Bob Hearts Abishola’. This award winning artist wears many hats and is very talented.
The music Sola Akingbola creates with The Eegun Rhapsodies is a funky fusion of Afro beats, jazz style with orchestral depth. His music is unlike anything I’ve heard before, it’s sentimental, cinematicly beautiful and full of soul. Sola’s time composing music for film comes across in his personal work. The title track ‘How Should I’ was actually originally written for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2016 production of Hamlet. Each of Sola Akingbola’s songs tell a unique story of cultural identity. This is his best work yet, and we can’t wait to hear the second half of this album!
