The independent music scene continues to thrive in 2024! Over 8 months into the year, we wanted to talk about some of the best new music from independent artists that are blowing up. This was one of the hardest things we had to do recently, narrowing down who to feature in this article. So many names are deserving, but we did our best! We tried to pick the artists that have been the most actively releasing music, hard on their grind and putting out unique original music. Each of these artists are blowing up because they have been working hard every day. Most importantly, they all have their own vibe and character. We did keep this list to just artists, not bands, and didn’t include any country artists. We’re working on another article featuring the best in country, so that’s why. The artists we chose are from various genres, from pop to hip hop.

We don’t mean just copy them, but look at how they utilize social media and promote themselves.

These independent artists are blowing up in 2024 because they are releasing the best new music. That’s always the most important factor. Next, they are authentic and original. The content their pushing is real, they are showcasing their personalities and fans are connecting to it. This is always the best recipe for success, make good music, be authentic and work hard!

Hip Hop Artist Lexa Gates

Lexa Gates is a hip hop artist out of Queens, New York. You may have seen her chill little dance she busts out in her videos pushing new music. It seems to have become her trademark. Those videos, along with her music and personality have blown up her insta followers to over 100k in 2024. Also, has brought her millions of streams on Spotify. Her latest release is called Provider, which was released August 6th. Our favorite Lexa Gates release this year is ‘I Can’t Be Left Alone’ with Billy Lemos. This collab has really blown up for her and is one of the best new tracks of the year!

Hip Hop Artist Angelo Mota

Angelo Mota’s flow is undeniable. His rhymes seem effortless. Angelo Mota is a hip hop artist out of West Orange, New Jersey. He has multiple tracks on Spotify with millions of streams! His latest release, is the album ‘angelo is tired’, which we absolutely love. The album dropped July 19th, 2024, if you haven’t yet, make sure ya listen to it. Our favorite release of the year by Angelo is ‘all good’, the music video for it was one of our videos of the week earlier this year.

Pop Artist Sadie Fine

It’s crazy that Sadie Fine is only 18 years old, this is only the beginning of her music career. She has a beautiful voice, and is a very talented songwriter from Clarksville / Nashville, Tennessee. On top of that, she’s grown a loyal following on social media thanks to her personality and authentic content. Sadie’s latest release is MEAT, which was dropped August 16th, 2024. The song isn’t just catchy as hell, but it sends a positive message about body positivity. Earlier this year, she dropped an EP called ‘Fine’, which got over a million streams! Alternative Hip Hop Artist Oblé Reed

Out of Seattle, Washington, Oblé Reed is another very active artist that’s appearing on all of the top independent playlists. When you listen, there’s no confusion as to why. He’s got a classic vibe and old school hip hop kind of sound. Yet, it’s fresh and new, we love it! On June, 6th, 2024, Oblé released his popular album ‘RETROVISION’. One of our favorite releases of the year of course. Then one of our favorite music videos of 2024 is for his song ‘SALAD’. We loved it so much we made it a video of the week earlier this year.

Soulful Pop Artist Gabi Sklar

Australian pop artist Gabi Sklar, might be the most active artists on this list! She’s released 2 EP’s this year already, one of which is ‘America’s Most Wanted’, dropped July 23rd, 2024. Her uniquely amazing and raspy voice is iconic. Whenever one of her new songs come on a playlist, she’s easy to recognize. All of her talent, and brilliant songwritng have helped her grow a strong and loyal fan base. Millions of followers on TikTok and Instagram. Plus, millions of streams on Spotify. Her latest release, is her music video for ‘Rockstar’, which is from the new EP. The video is absolutely amazing, she really is a star on the rise!

Neo-Soul Hip Hop Artist Samara Cyn

Tennessee native, Samara Cyn is currently blowing up. Her music is a soulful fusion of hip hop that is completely original. Samara’s songwriting is next level poetry. Her style and flow is something to be admired. 2024 has been a breakout year for Samara Cyn. She’s released more music this year than ever before. Her music video for ‘Katana’ was amazing, completely original and unique. The newest release by Samara is ‘Chrome’, which dropped August, 8th, 2024 via Colors Studios. If ya don’t know her yet, prepare yourself, ya will be seeing a lot of her. Next up, Samara Cyn is dropping her debut EP ‘The Drive Home’ which will drop this fall.

These artists above are all having break out years in 2024, without a major label. Being independent, they have the freedom to create what they want. Resulting in boundary breaking music for us all to enjoy. These artists start and create their own trends.

It was hard to narrow down our list to just these 6 top independent music artists. But, we’re confident these are all deserving names. We picked them because they’ve all released popular music videos, multiple singles and albums or EP’s. Plus, they’ve been gaining huge fan bases because of it.
