Interview with Country Artist Brian John Harwood on his new single 'Dreamin' Artist Interviews

Interview with Country Artist Brian John Harwood on his new single ‘Dreamin’ and what’s next

MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us. What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?

Brian John Harwood: It’s a pleasure to be here. Thank you for having me! I picked up my first guitar at 11 years old. It was laying around the house because my older brother Joe was in a band. I practiced on my own in my room and learned as many songs as I could, and then started to write my own. The thing about writing your own songs is that you can’t get them wrong haha.

Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?

Brian John Harwood: My musical influences and idols are all over the map. They range from James Hetfield from Metallica, to Chris Cornell, to Garth Brooks, to Bon Jovi, to Michael Jackson, to Zakk Wylde. Those are just some of the musicians that have helped mold me into the musician I am today. The list goes on, but I’d be here all day if I were to name every single one.

What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?

Brian John Harwood: My ultimate goal is to spread positivity and happiness. I also want my writing to connect with people and allow them to feel emotions. The words I write affect their lives- whether it be to put a smile on their face or allow them to shed a couple of tears.
The message I want to send is practice makes progress-the more you stick with it, the closer you get to achieving your goal.

What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?

Brian John Harwood: There have been so many amazing shows I’ve been able to be a part of this summer. One, being able to join Keith Urban, Lee Brice, and many others looking at the beautiful mountains at Sunfest on Vancouver Island. Another one, playing Boots and Hearts in my hometown with Cody Johnson, Thomas Rhett, and Jason Aldean-that was a check off the bucket list.

You’re latest release is the single, Dreamin’, what inspired this track? What’s it mean to you?

Brian John Harwood: Dreamin’ was a song I wrote and had on my phone for about 5 years and never released. It’s a song that I love and the melody just gets me every time. Like most of my songs, my wife was my inspiration for this one. It’s about how lucky I am to have her in my life, and if I’m dreamin’, please don’t wake me up.

How would you describe your brand of country music? What makes it different from other country artists?

Brian John Harwood: I don’t know how to describe my brand to be honest. I just write what I like and some might be rock infused, the next could be hip hop infused, then traditional country could come next. I’m inspired by all types of music and I love that every song is a little different. I guess you could say my brand is just BJH.

You’ve found a lot of success as an independent artist, what advice would you give to other artists looking to succeed?

Brian John Harwood: Thank you very much! What is success? It’s different for everyone. I feel like I’ve succeeded because I’m able to write and create music and perform it. In general, I’d say work hard, don’t give up and don’t wait for someone else. I do this because I love to create, so that drives me. Don’t do it for the money or fame, do it because you’re passionate about it and love it.

What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?

Brian John Harwood: I have lots more music coming your way! There will be one full album, maybe two, I’m just going to keep recording and putting out music. That’s the game plan! Hopefully everyone likes what’s coming!

Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?

Brian John Harwood: Every stream, every view, every like, every comment… it fills my heart with your support and love. Thank you all so much for following me on my journey, buckle up, I’m just getting started!
