Interview with Pop Artist Kissimjau on new music & more

MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us. What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?

Kissimjau: Somehow I have always known that I wanted to make music and I was really just motivated by the feeling I got from performing. A feeling I didn’t know what was but felt different to everything else I knew. I started writing my own music when I was 8 (in English even though I barely knew english), and ever since that i´ve probably written thousands of songs!

Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?

Kissimjau: I would say my main musical influences growing up was Lady Gaga and Rihanna. I think Lady Gaga’s electronic sound with big synths probably plays a big part in my love for electronic music cause I remember listening to her album “The Fame” non stop even though i was just seven at the time. I think the way she’s so shameless and authentic also inspired me alot.

What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?

Kissimjau: My ultimate goal is to inspire people and especially girls to dare to go after their dreams, and to be able to make people feel something through my music. I would also love to travel the world playing concerts and be able to meet the people who like my music!

What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?

Kissimjau: I saw Raye playing in Bergen this summer which was amazing. I truly think she is one of the best songwriters that we have, and during the concert she made me both cry and dance, and I really aspire to take the listeners through a journey like that on my own concerts as well!

You’re latest release is the single ‘Voodoo Doll’, which is doing very well! What inspired this track? What does it mean to you?

Kissimjau: What inspired the track is the immediate feeling of rage after being betrayed by someone. I was cheated on by an ex boyfriend, but it was important for me to make the song feel empowering, so I think it turned out to be a nice balance of emotions in that song!

You also dropped a music video for Voodoo Doll, which is your first full length music video. What was it like creating the video?

Kissimjau: Creating the music video was super fun! I got to bring friends for the scenes where we needed background actors, so we made it a really social and fun thing which I think is important! I also got to do some things i never thought i would do, like stabbing a voodoo doll, and also acting out “killing” someone which was crazy! So a super fun experience, I will definitely do it again!

Being from Norway, what’s the music scene like there for an independent artist like yourself?

Kissimjau: Being an independent artist in Norway is pretty nice to be honest! We´re a small country so the music scene is pretty small which means the community is tight and people are supportive of each other!

What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?

Kissimjau: Right now I’m getting ready for releasing a new song next friday (15/11),which I am super excited about as it is kinda different to the other songs i´ve released, but I hope people will like it! Apart from that i’m working on more songs to come in 2025 <3
