Interview with Surf Country Artist Adam Wendler Artist Interviews

Interview with Surf Country Artist Adam Wendler on his new single & more

MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us. What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?

Adam Wendler: I started playing guitar at the age of 15, I always loved music and some friends wanted me to play in their band so I decided to give it a go.

Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or
helped mold the music that you create?

Adam Wendler: Blink 182 was the first band that I was really into, at that point I really wanted to be in a pop punk band. I also listened to a lot of Eminem at a young age and as I got into my teens I got more into classic rock and folk stuff. At that point Neil Young became my favourite writer and has influenced my style tremendously.

What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?

Adam Wendler: I’d like to get to a level of playing stadiums full of fans that are singing along to my songs. I don’t have one message in particular I’m trying to send but in general it’s important to me that all my songs come from a genuine and meaningful place, so hopefully other people can resonate with them.

What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?

Adam Wendler: The greatest concert I’ve been to was Hozier in Berlin a couple years ago. I’ve played far too many gigs to have a favourite one, but there have been many good times.

Your latest release is ‘Bittersweet (Taste of Home)’, which we’re loving! What inspired this track? What’s it mean to you?

Adam Wendler: The song was written about a true story in my hometown in Canada when a factory shut down and was moved to the states. A lot of the families of people that worked there moved with it which separated many friends and couples. In Bittersweet (Taste of Home) I highlight one story in particular inspired by that time in my life.

Before that, you had a lot of success co-writing the viral hit ‘Austin’ with Dasha. How did that collaboration come to be? What was it like seeing the success it had?

Adam Wendler: Before writing Austin I wrote another song with Dasha called Vegas. It was a chance meeting through another producer that reached out to me online. I kept in touch with Dasha and the next time I saw her we got together with producer Travis Heidelman and co-writer Cheyenne Arnspiger. After struggling to write a different song for a few hours, we took a break and I started playing the guitar which is now known as Austin. This sparked a frenzy of ideas and within an hour we had the song written. We all knew it was a great tune but I don’t think any of us could have imagined the success it has had. It’s definitely been an incredible and life changing experience!

You have found a lot of success as an independent musician, what advice would you give to other artists to find similar success?

Adam Wendler: Just keep going. Keep writing, keep playing, and be open to new methods and ideas. Most people just give up too soon.

What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?

Adam Wendler: I’m working on an album that is in a similar style to Bittersweet (Taste of Home). I plan on releasing singles every couple months leading up to it. There’s a lot of great music to look forward to!
