Interview with Country Sister Duo The Lockhearts on their Debut Single ‘Graveyard’
MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us. Introduce yourselves, what are your names and rolls in the band?
The Lockhearts: Thank you for asking us to be in this interview!
I’m the older sister, Paige. We both sing lead vocals and harmonies depending on the song, and sometimes even switch back and forth on lead within the same song. I play acoustic guitar, electric guitar, ukulele, and some piano.
I’m Kate and I’m still in my senior year of high school. We are both songwriters and I play the acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, ganjo, ukulele, some piano, and I also do all of our song whistling.
As a sister duo, I saw that you’ve been making music since you were 5 and 7 already. What sparked your love of making music?
The Lockhearts: When we were growing up, our mom used to sing a lot around the house, and so we fell in love with singing together. Our love of it naturally led to wanting to write songs, and so we did! We
would then gather the family together so that we could put on a “show” for everyone.

How did you come up with the name The Lockhearts?
The Lockhearts: It was actually our dad who thought of the name. We had been thinking about it for months and couldn’t think of anything that we liked. One day when he mentioned the idea, we all loved it. The Lockhearts name suits us really well in that it is symbolic of our bond as sisters.
Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the band you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
The Lockhearts: We have a pretty wide variety in music taste from Kacey Musgraves, Ingrid Andress, and Carter Faith to artists like Def Leopard, Gracie Abrams, and Imagine Dragons. We grew up listening to a lot of Johnny Cash and Coldplay around the house because of our Dad. This variety of influences has helped us create our own unique sound that has a blend on genres.
What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?
The Lockhearts: One of our favorite concerts has to be seeing Gracie Abrams here in Austin. It had less to do with the performance and had more to do with how much her songs connect with a crowd. Her fans, along with us, knew every line by heart and that plays such a big role in making a concert so exciting!
What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a band? Any particular message you wish to send?
The Lockhearts: We are always striving to write music that people can connect with on some level. Songs can leave someone with a negative or positive feeling, making them sad, uplifted, hopeful, or at peace.
Whatever the feeling is, music can be a way for people to feel heard and noticed just because they relate to a song. Our hope is to use our music to impact others in this way.
After making music for most of your lives, you’ve finally released your debut single ‘Graveyard’. How does it feel to finally put your original music out there and begin this journey?
The Lockhearts: We are so excited to finally have music out! It’s been a long time coming! It’s been so encouraging to see all the positive feedback on our song and we can’t wait to release more. We have our next single “Lorelei” coming out this September 20th and will be releasing a few songs later this year leading up to our first EP!
Graveyard is one of the best debut singles we have heard. It’s been very well received too! What inspired this track? What was it like creating it?
The Lockhearts: Wow! Thank you! I’m so happy you like it!
It’s kind of a funny story, it was four years ago, during Covid, that we weren’t really doing much and so our dad told us to go write a breakup song. Graveyard was the result, and one of our first songs that we were both really proud of. In fact, during Covid, we also covered one of The Band Perry’s songs, “If I die Young.” Kimberly Perry happened to see it and reached out to us. Graveyard is one of our songs that we shared with her. She was so kind to give us some direction on refining the song which resulted in it being the song that it is today.
What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
The Lockhearts: We have another single “Lorelei” that is coming out on 9-20. It is a song that I (Paige)wrote last year about the heartache from the loss of one of our closest childhood friends. Good news, though, ha ha we are now good friends again.
We are also working on releasing another single “Paper Doll” in October and another single in December. We are planning and working to keep releasing songs every 4-6 weeks leading to an EP. Then we will start the process back over again.
Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?
The Lockhearts: If anyone reads this who has supported our music in some way, we are really grateful to you. It is because of your support and encouragement that we have finally been able to release our music!
