Interview with UK Pop Artist Ellie Evans Artist Interviews

Interview with UK Pop Artist Ellie Evans

MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us. What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?

Ellie Evans: Music has always been a huge part of my life and is something I have always seen myself doing. I started piano lessons at the age of 7 and began writing songs at 11. Song writing has been my therapy for over 10 years and is now something I couldn’t live without!

Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?

Ellie Evans: Growing up I listened to lots of music. A few artists I would listen to on repeat include Coldplay, Pink, Alicia Keys, London Grammar, Elton John, Florence and The Machine and Fleetwood Mac. I loved powerful pop music (still do!) and these artists definitely influenced the way I write.

What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?

Ellie Evans: I would say my ultimate goal is for my music to connect with as many people as possible. Write about navigating my way through the beautiful mess of life and I want people to find comfort and empowerment in my message. I know everyone says this hahah, but I want to be able to tour with my music and perform on stages around the world lol (fingers crossed!) Performing is my favourite thing on the planet.

What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?

Ellie Evans: Hmm, wow what a question. I can’t decide on 1 concert, but my top 2 have to be Elton John’s farewell tour and Raye’s 21st Symphony Blues with The Heritage Orchestra. They both blew me away. The greatest performance I have played has to be my recent debut headline show. I couldn’t believe how many people turned up! And performing my songs with my amazing band after rehearsing our arses off was the most incredible feeling.

Your latest release is the single ‘Dreaming Again’, what inspired this song and what does it mean to you?

Ellie Evans: Dreaming Again was inspired by a breakup with my first long term boyfriend. I wrote it 2 years ago and it talks about the lonely nights after the end of a relationship. I seemed to be okay in the day but when it got to night-time I’d feel all the emotions at once! It’s a very special song to me that I have been sat on for a while so to put it out was a great feeling.

Also, you released a music video for the song. What was the process like filming this? As an indie artist, what kind of team do you have to create music videos?

Ellie Evans: Filming this video was so much fun. I worked with the amazing Jeevan Dominguez and Charlie Hedger who helped me bring my vision to life. Wanted the video to be quite simple and for the filming to all be done in my uni bedroom as the song is about feeling trapped in my room, going crazy from the millions of thoughts trapped in there with me. I am so proud of how this turned out.

You have found success as an independent artist, what advice would you give to other artists to succeed?

Ellie Evans: Aw that feels nice to hear haha!! I don’t know if I would say I have found success quite yet, there’s still a long way to go but I am proud of where I am right now and am so grateful for the people who are listening to my music. I would say to just write as honestly as you can in your music and create the music you want to hear. Sometimes the pressure of making songs do well on social media has made me write what I think people want to hear rather than staying 100% true to myself. The music that comes straight from your heart is usually the music that connects with the most people!

What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?

Ellie Evans: I am working on lots of new songs always! I have just finished my next single and will be announcing the release date very soon! For now, I am just focusing on releasing singles and connecting with more and more people <3
