Interview with Soul Artist Jake Isaac
MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us. What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?
Jake Isaac: I Began creating music quite late. I was actually around the age of 21 what I started writing embarrassing little love songs in my room. I suppose after a while I realised there’s no point in writing songs if im never gonna sing them. The rest was history lol.
Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
Jake Isaac: My main musical influences growing up were a mixture of gospel, Motown, soul and singer songwriters. Names in particular included, Paul Simon, The temptations, Michael Jackson and Bill Withers.
What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
Jake Isaac: Thats a crazy question…I suppose because I’ve never actually considered what the end result is when it comes to my music. I suppose on a day to day basis id really love for my art to help people to embrace their day that little bit more, or get the pick up they need when feeling low. I think contributing to peoples everyday life is probably the biggest privilege and goal!
What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?
Jake Isaac: Greatest concert ive ever been to would have to be the first time I saw ColdPlay at Wembley arena. I went on my own, sat up in the nose bleeds and had the time of my life like a proper “billy no mates” lol.
You’re latest release, is the single ‘OKAY’, which is a beautiful track. What inspired this song? What’s it mean to you?
Jake Isaac: This song was inspired by my exploration of songs of lamentations. Lament isn’t something that people often embrace or run to in the world we live in and I really wanted to write one for when the days are dark and the world is a little heavy on the shoulders.
You’ve been an artist all your life, learning and developing your craft over the years. You’ve been a session musician and songwriter for other artists, while being a marketing manager. How did all of these experiences coming up help to shape you as an artist?
Jake Isaac: I feel like because creativity has been at the core of all the roles ive had on my journey, I think ive been so privileged. These experiences had all contributed to my ability to express my self in song form and film making to date. Im very grateful.
As an independent artist, you have found a lot of success. What advice would you give to other artists coming up, looking to find similar success?
Jake Isaac: Figure out who you are and the type of music that makes you come alive…believe in it with all the conviction in the world, then you won’t have to spend hours proving to people on social media that they need to listen to your music, rather, all you’ll have to do is be yourself and share you music, there are enough people in the world for you to have an audience of your own. Your conviction and love of your art will help your audience to find you.
What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
Jake Isaac: Working on writing my second film and also my new album out in October 2024.
