Mae Estes EP 'Before The Record' Artist Interviews

MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you again, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.

What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?

  • Mae Estes: I had a lot of creative and social energy as a child and quickly found out I enjoyed entertaining people. In my quest to find the best way to get people’s attention, I found that they seemed to enjoy me singing. So at age seven, I sang the national anthem a capella at a rodeo I was in. I changed keys about four times and drug it out to about 10 minutes long, but caught the bug and started working at learning everything I could about music.

MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?

  • Mae Estes: Keith Whitley, Lee Ann Womack, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Alan Jackson, The Judds, Kitty Wells, Tammy Wynette, Vern Gosdin, Randy Travis, Reba McEntire

MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?

  • Mae Estes: I’m just tryin’ to make my Mama and Keith Whitley proud. I want people to feel safe and seen and to be inspired to be unapologetically themselves when listening to my music.

MuzicNotez: What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?

  • Mae Estes: I’m making my Grand Ole Opry debut THIS WEEK. And that will be the greatest stage I will ever stand on in my book. Such an unbelievable honor for this country music fan.

MuzicNotez: Your latest release is the album ‘Before The Record’. What’s this release mean to you? What inspired it?

  • Mae Estes: This is my first project release and more importantly, my first time to print CD’s. It’s such a dream come true to have that CD that I got to design, with six songs I’m so proud of on it. Even if CD players were nearly extinct by the time I got to accomplish that goal hahah

MuzicNotez: You’re originally from Arkansas and moved to Nashville to pursue your music career. What was this move like for you? How has it changed your life?

  • Mae Estes: The move was a culture shock for sure! It was and still is incredibly hard to be so far away from my family in southern Arkansas. My husband and I miss the quiet and open air and being able to do lots of things we loved back home, but knew that Nashville was where we’d need to be until we got this thing off the ground. There’s nothing like diving into the deep end of Music City USA and I’m a better musician for it.

MuzicNotez: Looking over your social pages, I’m seeing a lot of big news and moments for you everywhere. What’s the biggest moment of your music career so far?

  • Mae Estes: The Grand Ole Opry will always be the most impressive thing to me on my resume. I’m also exceptionally proud to have had that dream come true as an independent artist, creating music I truly believe in.

MuzicNotez: What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?

  • Mae Estes: I’m excited to bring an acoustic video series to my YouTube in the coming months! I’ll be adding more and more tour dates as they year rolls on and I’ll just say my EP isn’t called “Before the Record” for nothing 😉

MuzicNotez: Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?

  • Mae Estes: Thank you so much for giving my music a listen! And a special shout out to my Maeniacs 😉 Join us on my website, maeestes.com
