Interview with Kacey Fifield on new pop single ‘HOLD UR PEACE’ & more
MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.
We last spoke back in 2022, when you were starting out and just pushing your debut album ‘Between The Lines’, since then, you’ve grown a lot. How do you personally feel you’ve evolved as an artist since then?
Kacey Fifield: Since then, I’ve graduated high school and started college, and my music has definitely evolved alongside me. Thematically, the topics I’m writing about feel very different and lyrically, I feel I’ve grown a more specific voice as an artist. This new release, “HOLD UR PEACE,” has particularly bold and sassy lyrics, a style that I’ve loved writing in prior tracks like “Never Reply” and “Vegas.” I love balancing making fun songs with being vulnerable in tracks like “Right Past Me” and “Left Behind.” Sonically, my style has also grown for sure. The music I make now leans more indie/pop rock/alt pop than my previous dance pop work. “HOLD UR PEACE” is super pop rock and I can’t wait to explore this style further!
With more years in this, what do you think is the most valuable thing you’ve learned?
Kacey Fifield: I’ve learned that the entertainment industry is full of many highs and lows, so I shouldn’t let myself get too hung up on any particular moment. I could be getting a ton of streams and show offers one month, then absolutely nothing the next month. It’s important for me to be making music, connecting with fans and doing what I love, regardless of success!

Now, you’ve got over 7 million streams and found a lot of success, how does it feel to see your music enjoyed so much?
Kacey Fifield: It’s really insane, there’s no other way to put it! For me, the numbers don’t mean much and feel almost impossible to conceptualize, but when I get DMs from fans who have said my music has helped them or see people singing along at my concerts, it feels so surreal.
How has your time in acting helped your on-stage presence when performing a show?
Kacey Fifield: : It’s definitely helped me become confident in front of an audience. Being perceived by so many people is such an odd thing for anyone, so acting has absolutely helped me get used to that. It’s also made me a lot more expressive when singing, which I think is super fun for both me and the audience!
Your latest release, is ‘HOLD UR PEACE’, what can you tell us about this track?
Kacey Fifield: “HOLD UR PEACE” is an edgy pop-rock song that brutally slams an “addict” to “no commitment” for their mixed signals and confusing web of secrets. By the time the chorus hits, a relatively modest verse gives way to guitar shredding and energetic drum fills, providing the perfect soundscape for the track’s bold lyrics play on the phrase “speak now or forever hold your peace.” I made this song with Mike Pepe, Brooke Daye, and AJ Peacox in a nice, air-conditioned room in the middle of the summer, so we definitely enjoyed writing a track with so much energy in it.

Being an artist on TikTok, how do you feel about all of this talk about banning it here in America? How would it affect you?
Kacey Fifield: As an artist, I’m lucky that the majority of my fanbase is on Instagram, so I wouldn’t be affected too much personally. As a political science major, however, I think banning TikTok would set an incredibly harmful precedent for censorship and hurt the livelihoods of so many people who make their income off of content creation, promoting their small business, or working at TikTok.
What is the process like when you’re creating new music?
Kacey Fifield: My songwriting process really depends on the song! Sometimes I’ll be sitting with my guitar for hours, ruminating over chord progressions and lyrics I can match to them. Other times, I get a melody and lyric idea while I’m walking outside or hanging out with friends and have to awkwardly pull out my phone to record a voice memo before I forget. I also work with cowriters and producers so sometimes I’ll come to a writing session with a fully formed idea that just needs instrumentation and sometimes I’ll show up with a three-word phrase I think would be interesting for a song and we work it out together. Each songwriting process is unique! For “HOLD UR PEACE,” the song is fully based on the idea I had of using the phrase said at weddings, “speak now or forever hold your peace,” and twisting it to fit the context of someone sending mixed signals.
What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
Kacey Fifield: I have sooo much new music in the works!!! I think I have more fully-written, produced songs in my vault than I’ve ever had so I can’t wait to release some of it. I’m also playing a show in NYC on February 15th! Tickets can be found at kaceyfifield.com 🙂
Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?
Kacey Fifield: Thank you so much to everyone who supports me!!! I appreciate you so much <3
