Interview with Folk artist Frank Watkinson on new music & what’s next

MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us. What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?

Frank Watkinson: My first playable guitar was when I was 16, I was determined to learn how to play it because I had a cousin that was really good and I wanted to play like him.

Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?

Frank Watkinson: Basically any folk band ,0r musician, Paul Simon , Ralph McTell, Cat Stevens, there are just too many mention.in later years Passenger, Ed Sheeran, and anyone acoustic.

What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?

Frank Watkinson: I don’t really have any goals as this is just a hobby to me , I honestly never expected the response that i’m getting, I don’t call myself a musician as I have never played anywhere outside of my house. My message is don’t ever think you aren’t good enough to post your music as you never know what might come of it.

What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?

Frank Watkinson: The rolling stones in HydePark London, but I went home as they were coming on lol. As I said before I haven’t performed anywhere.

Your music really plugs on the heart strings and comes from the soul. This seems to really be connecting with people. What has that experience been like for you?

Frank Watkinson: It is extremely humbling, I never thought I would ever get the responses that I do.

One of your deeply personal songs is ‘This Could Be My Last Song’. What inspired this track? Elaborate more on what it means to you.

Frank Watkinson: It was just a reflection of a life , at the time I wasn’t really thinking about the lyrics as they just seemed to come from nowhere, I guess it was all my subconscious thoughts pouring out, the kind of thoughts you get more when you are getting older.

You also perform a lot of covers, and really make them your own way. What song haven’t you released a cover of yet, that you’re really thinking about doing?

Frank Watkinson: There are so many, a lot of them I just can’t get right or they have very few lyrics and a lot of instrumental, I don’t do instrumentals because i’m not good enough. I tend to go through the thousands of requests and just pick one, my next one will be Daniel, Elton John.

What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?

Frank Watkinson: I have a lot of people wanting to colaborate but don’t have anything going on as yet , I just take things a day at a time.

Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?

Frank Watkinson: I’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone for all the kind words and messages sent to meit makes everything worth while.
