Abby Johnson finally releases her highly anticipated self-titled debut album. This was supposed to drop years back, but the pandemic had other plans. She’s released singles along the way, but now the full album dropped on September, 15th, 2023. Abby Johnson is backed by local Nashville artists, her backing band is called Ornament. The album was brilliantly produced by the band’s drummer, Ryan Donoho.

You can’t exactly pin point Abby Johnson’s sound, which is a good thing. But it has influences in folk, indie rock and lo-fi vibes. She’s not just a singer though, she wrote her songs as well. Originally, Abby is from North Carolina, but then moved to Nashville for school and ultimately her dream of being an artist became a reality. Her early songwriting days were influenced by Taylor Swift, then took heavy influence from Bonnie Raitt, Phoebe Bridgers and Linda Ronstadt. After combining these influences, with her talent and Ornament backing it all up, you have an amazing new album.

Abby Johnson’s debut album features 10 original new tracks. It kicks off strong with The Durango Song, giving you a good idea what you’re in for. Get’s real groovy at ‘Watch The Angels Go’. Then ‘Try Me On’ showcases the full power of everything coming together. The song was also just featured on Spotify’s Fresh Finds playlist, which is always a big honor. The album finishes out with some more laid back vibes and beautiful songwriting. This album feels somehow familiar, yet brand new. Abby Johnson seems to be an old soul with a fresh new voice. We love this album and can’t wait to see what’s next! Check it out via Spotify below and all major streaming sites.
