Interview with Kristina Menissov on Latest Pop Single ‘Her Story’, Modeling, & More
MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.
What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?
- Kristina Menissov: Music has always been a part of my life. I started music school at the age of 5, initially studying piano, and later transitioned into opera singing during my junior years in high school. For a long time, my relationship with music was rooted in discipline, structure, and trying to meet very high expectations. And if I’m being honest, there was a period where I felt like I wasn’t fitting into that world the way I was supposed to. I internalized a lot of pressure, and at some point, I actually stepped away from music completely.
Coming back to it was a turning point for me. It wasn’t about perfection anymore, but more about expression. I allowed myself to be imperfect, to make mistakes, to explore sounds that weren’t that “beautiful.” That’s when I really started creating.
Music stopped being about proving myself and became something I needed to feel and express.Losing music for a moment is actually what helped me find my voice.
Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
- Kristina Menissov: I was deeply influenced by strong, timeless vocalists and musician artists like Alicia Keys. I remember listening to her album on repeat every single day growing up. There was something about the emotion in her voice combined with musicality that really stayed with me.
At the same time, I’ve always been drawn to a wide range of sounds 🎶 from classical music and opera to more ethnic and cultural influences. That mix naturally shaped me into a versatile artist. I’m especially inspired by voices that feel effortless but are technically grounded, where emotion and control exist at the same time.
I also love modern pop storytelling, so my sound became a blend of classical discipline, ethnic freedom and contemporary expression. I’m always inspired by artists who evolve and aren’t afraid to redefine themselves.
Versatility, to me, isn’t confusion… it’s range.

What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
- Kristina Menissov: My goal is to create music that stays with people. Not just something you listen to once, but something that makes you feel, reflect, or even shift your perspective.
If there’s a message, it’s about authenticity and emotional honesty. I want people to feel seen, understood, and maybe even a little less alone through what I create.
What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?
- Kristina Menissov: Performing my own solo show at The Mint in Los Angeles was definitely a defining moment for me. It was my first sold-out show, and there’s something very powerful about standing in front of a room full of people who came to hear your story.
It felt intimate, emotional, and very real… those are the moments that remind me why I do this.
Your latest release is the single ‘Her Story’, this was fittingly released during Black History month, but is also fitting during Women’s history month now. Please tell us about what motivated this track and the stories behind those people.
- Kristina Menissov: “Her Story” came from a place of not wanting to stay silent. We live in a world where names become headlines and then slowly fade away. I didn’t want that to happen.
The song was inspired by real women, real lives, and real stories that deserved more care and more humanity than they were given. It’s not about one specific story, or something that only belongs to a particular month, you can listen to it even now in April… it represents many voices that were never fully heard.
Releasing it during that time was of course intentional, because it’s about honoring history, identity, and remembrance. But beyond that, I hope it encourages people to stay empathetic and aware, even when the moment passes and the world moves on.
Because these stories don’t expire and neither should our compassion.
With a song like this, what are you hoping is the result of it? What do you want your fans to think and do after hearing it?
- Kristina Menissov: I hope people take a moment to really sit with it. Not just hear it, but feel it.
If the song makes someone pause, reflect, or see things differently… even for a moment 💔 that’s enough. I think music has the power to create awareness in a way that feels human, not forced. And if it stays with you after it ends, then it’s done what it was meant to do. And again ‘Her Story’ isn’t just a song, it’s a reminder that some voices were never fully heard, and it’s our responsibility to remember them 🙏🏽
Beyond being an artist, you’re a model. How has modeling impacted your career as an artist?/h3>
- Kristina Menissov: Modeling has definitely shaped my visual identity and how I present my artistry. It taught me how to tell a story without words, through movement, expression, and aesthetics.
I bring that into my music a lot. Every visual, every performance, every video modeling indeed helps me a lot, with all the connections to showrooms, stylists and top HMUA. For me, music and fashion don’t compete, they elevate each other.
What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future? Tell us about the new singles coming up leading to your new album.
- Kristina Menissov: I’m currently working on several new releases, including “It’s Summer,” which I’m also gonna shoot a music video for, as well as upcoming tracks like “Workdat” and “Lights, Camera, Action.”
I’m continuing to release new music and evolve my sound, and each project is becoming more intentional and more aligned with who I am now as an artist.
This next phase is about stepping into a more defined and unapologetic version of my artistry.
Get ready for bold visuals, immersive storytelling, and live shows that bring you closer to my music than ever before.
Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?
- Kristina Menissov: I would just say thank you for being here and for listening.
And don’t be afraid to feel deeply. The world moves very fast, and sometimes we forget to pause and connect with what’s real. If my music gives you even a single moment to pause, feel, and connect, then I’ve done my job.
