When did you start your business? What motivated you to create this business?

Unknown Source Music: The label was originally founded in 1991 and officially opened in 1993. It was created out of necessity to release music that other labels rejected. Our persistence and belief in the art being produced fueled our passion. Even after facing setbacks and rejection, the commitment to giving this music a platform kept the vision alive.

MuzicNotez: What sets Unknown Music Source apart from all the rest? How are you unique?

Unknown Source Music: Unknown Music Source stands out because of its commitment to creative freedom. Artists maintain full control over what they release, how it is released, and when it is distributed. We operate in a cooperative style that gives artists true autonomy instead of restricting their creative expression.

MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want to achieve with your label? What are your goals?

Unknown Source Music: Our goal has always been to reach and develop as many artists as possible worldwide. Everyone has a story to tell, and Unknown Music Source provides the opportunity and platform for those stories to be shared.

MuzicNotez: Who do you represent on your label? Are you accepting more artists to join? Open to all genres?

Unknown Source Music: The label primarily specializes in urban, hip hop, and dance music. However, we are not limited to any specific genre. Our focus is on creativity and originality across many styles. We look for artists who create their own lane and bring unique talent to the table.

MuzicNotez: What kind of services do you offer independent artists?

Unknown Source Music: We offer artist development and consultation. In the past, we have used an intrapreneur style approach, which means we temporarily operate certain aspects for the artist, and once the work is completed, they take full control moving forward.

MuzicNotez: Being an independent label, you offer artists something different than the large major labels can, how do you think artists benefit more from an independent label like yours?

Unknown Source Music: Artists benefit greatly because major labels often do not have the time to focus on individual development. Independent labels like ours can offer more support, guidance, and creative freedom, allowing artists to grow at their own pace and develop their true sound.

MuzicNotez: Independent music artists work very hard to be heard. What piece of advice would you give to an indie artist to help them succeed?

Unknown Source Music: Promotion and constant creation are essential. The more people you reach, the greater your chances of success. The more you create, the more opportunities you give yourself to be discovered.
