MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.
Introduce yourselves, what are your names and rolls in the band?
Orquesta Arrecife: The music of the orquesta is mainly recorded and produced by Fernando Cárcamo (also known as the author of El viaje de Antonio) in the role of keyboardist and programmer. Eventually he works with other local artist as Luimmi (Spoon Rapael) or Teresa Moreno (Psychedelic survive). Other studio musicians figure in the records, his work comes from shared files on the internet.
MuzicNotez: How did you meet and form up? How long have you been together?
Orquesta Arrecife: I have been recording music as Orquesta Arrecife since year 2011. In the University I played in a band known as Joker to the Queen. There I meet Luimmi, Teresa and Carlos Sandúa. Also, I was playing in other varius bands (The pura madre, Intérprete desconocido, Isabel Dávila, even an orquesta actually extinted…).
MuzicNotez: How did you come up with the name Orquesta Arrecife? What’s its meaning?
Orquesta Arrecife: The name is taken from forgotten and popular spanish orquestas that plays in small villages such as orquesta Ave Fénix, orquesta Altamira, orquesta Arcoiris or orquesta Paladino. Arrecife is a name that suggests sea, wind and natural elements that moves with strong in an open space. Every single instrument has his own sense an color and they all are involved in a unique coral reef. Arrecife means reef.
MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the band you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
Orquesta Arrecife: As a replica of a popular orquesta, we receive the influences of many artists and very famous themes are sometimes played in a personal way. We usually name as influences artists such as The Beatles, Nina Simone, J. S. Bach, Vangelis, Mecano, Victor Borgue, Ray Charles, Deep purple, Mike Oldfield, Eurythmics or Blondie.
MuzicNotez: What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?
Orquesta Arrecife: The greatest concert I have performed was in Trijueque (Guadalajara). The orquesta has two trucks and a little scenery. I remember that in one moment of the concert a man comes up to the stage and lay on the floor. Other people of the crow visit the stage also, and tell to us differents and surreal things.
MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as musicians? Any particular message you wish to send?
Orquesta Arrecife: An ultimate goal can be living from our music. In the present we live for the music, and that´s no bad at all.
MuzicNotez: You have a big focus on getting your music featured in movies, when did you realize this was your focus and what was the motivation?
Orquesta Arrecife: Since I started composing many people tell me that those musics suggested them images, histories or it would be perfect for an audiovisual project. Before I founded Orquesta Arrecife El viaje de Antonio was featured in a famous spanish TV program. When we begin to share music on the internet many people included them in their videos, that´s why we created the Festival Arrecife, a platform to give more exposure to those cooperating works.
MuzicNotez: Your latest release is entitled ‘Hologramas’, what can you tell us about this release, and how does it differ from your previous work?
Orquesta Arrecife: We made a small trip to Denia and have the chance to wach a film called Das testament des dr. Mabuse. We thought that some of the pieces of the album were similar to holograms, as their appear and dissapear in some dreamy situacions and their spire different and sometimes crazy things. Before Hologramas was published, we publish 101, a very sad and dark album. Hologramas is sad and dark also but maybe after you heard it you can award a hope that in 101 you can´t find. The transition between 101 and Hologramas is like emerging into a deep site and arriving to more clear worlds.
MuzicNotez: What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
Orquesta Arrecife: Currently we are recording another album called La gran evasión.
