Interview with Austrian Classical Artist Dalal on New Singles & Upcoming EP
MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.
What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?
Dalal Bruchmann: Thank you for the opportunity to interview with you. I started violin and piano when I was about 4 years old. Just like some kids naturally gravitate toward sports or drawing, music just captured me early on. I found joy in. Over time, that playful fascination turned into a real passion, and it became ay way of expressing myself. From then on, creating music just felt like a natural extension of who I was.
Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
Dalal: A lot of my early musical influences came from what my mom listened to. She had a really wide musical range – from Kate Bush and Handel to traditional Japanese music – so from a young age, the world of sound felt very open and limitless to me. I think we often connect the music and even the musicians we love with specific times in our lives – moments of comfort, adventure, or the people we were around. If I would narrow it down my musical influences were Kate Bush, Debussy, and Janet Jackson. They’ve each influenced different parts of my musical identity – from mood and texture to rhythm and storytelling.

What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
Dalal: That’s a great question, especially because the world around us feels so constantly in flux. In my career, I’m striving for structure and a sense of solidity in my work – something with meaning, purpose, and staying power. As for the ultimate goal, I often think of this quote by George Washington: ‘May the father of all mercies scatter light and not darkness, in our paths, and make us all in our several vocations useful here, and in His own due time and way everlastingly happy.’ That idea- that through our vocations we can become useful, and through that, find happiness – feels like a beautiful foundation and a meaningful contribution for a life in music.
Growing up in Austria, and living in some of the largest cities, you’ve been to some amazing concert halls. Which do you think has left the greatest impression on you as an artist?
Dalal: Oh, you’re about to unleash the Austrian in me with this question! 😉 I have to say – the Goldene Musikvereinssaal in Vienna has left the biggest impression on me. It’s just breathtaking, both visually and acoustically. I haven’t been to every concert hall in the world, of course, but from the ones I’ve had the privilege to perform in or attend, that one stands out as truly exceptional. That said, I also have a deep love for smaller, more intimate venues – like rooms in old castles or churches. There’s something really special about those spaces; the history in the walls and the closeness with the audience create a completely different kind of magic.
Your music career started off as a pop artist, then after a lot of success, you transitioned to classical now, where you’re finding even more success. What inspired this transition and what was the experience like?
Dalal: Interestingly, my career didn’t start in pop/EDM – I actually began in classical music, playing in orchestras when I was younger. I also spent some time working in musical theatre, and yes, it’s true I have a huge love for EDM too – it holds a really special place in my heart. But classical music has always remained a deep constant for me. It’s not just about the music itself – it’s the culture, the tradition, the depth of history that surrounds it.
But I think this is why I’m so drawn to film music—it allows me to swerve between styles, to bring in different influences in service of a story.
The first single to your upcoming album is entitled ‘Bergamot’, which dropped July 11th. How would you describe this release? What’s the significance to the name?
Dalal: ‘Bergamot’ is the first single from my upcoming album Things I Choose to Keep, which comes out on November 7th. The album was born during a brutal time in my life – after the passing of my beloved Mama. Creating it became an act of faith – that I might still build something from the ruins I’m sitting in. I’m still here. I still exist. And maybe, I still have a chance to hope and to dream.
Each piece on the album represents something I’ve chosen to carry forward—memories, places, scents – small fragments of comfort and meaning. The scent of bergamot, in particular, always takes me somewhere soft. It reminds me of my Mom, of Earl Grey tea, handwritten letters. It’s comfort. Naming the single ‘Bergamot’ felt like a gentle tribute to all of that
Your second single dropped August 1st, what can you tell us about this one?
Dalal: Yes, Silhouette is the second track from my album. The music came from a quiet, kind of lonely place. The world is moving on without you, and you’re watching it all unfold from behind the glass. There’s a melancholic, fairy-tale feeling to it… but as I was writing, I felt there was movement underneath – silhouettes shifting in the shadows. A subtle promise that there’s still a happy ending ahead. Ultimately, the piece is about letting the light back in, letting life back in.
In November, you’re releasing your new album ‘Things I Choose To Keep’. What inspired this release? What does it mean to you?
Dalal: This album is a deeply personal to me. It’s a tribute to my beloved Mama. She passed away just as I was about to begin this album writing journey. The past two years have worn me down honestly. I felt so raw- you could easily peel the skin from my soul. Creating this music became my sanctuary. It was my way to sit with my pain and try to shape it into something beautiful, tender and honest. Each piece reflects on something that I am choosing to keep with me as I carry on.
What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
Dalal: Right now, I’m excited to be working on a beautiful animation project- I’ve always been fascinated by that genre. I’ve also recorded another project with Warner Classics, continuing our journey into modern classical music, which is set to come out next year. On top of that, I’m gently stepping into a new phase of my life with a new album in the works – approaching it with a full heart and all my love.
Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?
Dalal: Thank you so much to everyone who has taken the time to listen to my music and has accompanied me on this voyage in one way or another. I’m truly grateful we get to share this special moment in time and space together.
