Interview with Joshua Lazer on Christian EDM Single 'the Rock' Artist Interviews

Interview with Joshua Lazer on Christian EDM Single ‘the Rock’, his Faith & More

MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us. What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?

Joshua Lazer: Thank you for having me. Well, it may sound but vocal chops is what motivated me to start making music. I remember the exact moment as if it was yesterday. As I was going for lunch during the lousing week(week after exams which leads up to the break off period/holiday) and then that’s when I heard ‘Lean on by Major Lazer’ playing especially the vocal chop part. After a while, another song with vocal chops ‘Forbidden Voices by Martin Garrix’ finally pushed me to start making music. I began making music at 16.

Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?

Joshua Lazer: The early stages it was Major Lazer and Martin Garrix whereby I would try to copy their sound as I was learning and trying to discover my sound as per say but after I encountered Jesus Christ, the music got a whole new direction, I discovered my sound so yeah Christ has really helped mold the music that you create and He is still helping. PS: Jesus has really awesome music ideas.

What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?

Joshua Lazer: The ultimate goal I want my music to achieve is to point people to Jesus Christ and to share the things I learnt or faced in my walk with Him. Then also I look at music as a ministry I don’t want to be a career to me most times I ask God to please let this music thing to just be a ministry and not a career.

What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?

Joshua Lazer: : Funny thing, I have never been to a concert or even performed.

Your latest release just dropped today (February 14th, 2025) and is called ‘the Rock’. What inspired this track? What’s it about to you?

Joshua Lazer: : Matthew 7:24-27 inspired this track in fact ‘the Rock’ is one of those tracks whereby God has already given me the message and the vision for it. The track reminds me that I should base/build every aspect of my life on the Rock which stands firm, which isn’t shaken, which isn’t moved, and that Rock is Jesus Christ. To me, it’s very important to remember because sometimes the cares of this life can cause me to stumble or worry or even feel like giving up and easily feel like sinking. Still, when I remember that Christ is my rock, He gives me the ability to remain calm and grounded during the storm.

As a Christian artist, how does your faith effect the music that you create?

Joshua Lazer: : Very much, every aspect, very stage of the music production my faith has to be included. Most times, when am making music am asking God for His view, His vision cause truth be told the project “JOSHUA LAZER” belongs to Him and I enjoy working along side Him.

You have a very unique brand of music, combining the dance genre with your Christian influences. EDM music is joyful, so we think it’s a great uplifting mix. What kind of responses have you gotten to you music? Any uplifting stories to tell?

Joshua Lazer: : Very positive responses being honest when God had placed it on my heart to make Christian EDM I legit told Him it wouldn’t work, I was like it can’t impact people’s lives or even touch their hearts. Spoiler alert, I was wrong. There are several stories for example a friend of mine that I used to study with in High school encountered Christ through music and decided that He wanted to give his life to Jesus and he told me all this at university after like 3 years of not seeing each other. Up to now, I can’t believe that testimony like it beats my understanding.

What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?

Joshua Lazer: : Am working on a bunch of projects, what we expect including me myself is a bunch of collaborations which I have really enjoyed I have connected with other artists, learnt a lot from other artists, and collaborations have helped in my spiritual walk in terms of like bearing fruit e.g patience cause sometimes I like making music fast so as I have enough time to make changes or even change according to what God places on my heart, then also in terms of like being selfless so many times as a producer you want something to sound a certain way but you do collaborations you notice everyone has a way of doing things so you love your neighbor as you love yourself when you kill your ego or being open to new approaches.

Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?

Joshua Lazer: : Am a chief sinner that doesn’t deserve God’s love or mercy yet He still chose to go all the way to the cross to take the punishment that I rightfully deserved plus He didn’t just do that for me alone, He did it for everyone so that we could receive this free gift of salvation offered to us by God’s grace. So if you are out there and you haven’t yet accepted this free gift well, it’s still available for you to receive before the chance closes trust me you are not too far gone or too lost to be found. Jesus is waiting to receive you in His hands, don’t let this chance pass you by.
I love you but Jesus loves you more.
