Hip Hop Artist Big Rome Drops New EP ‘Mentally Disturbed / Scarred 4 Life’ Artist Interviews

Interview with Big Rome on New EP ‘Mentally Disturbed / Scarred 4 Life’, the State of Rap Music & What’s Next

MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.

What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?

Big Rome: As a kid (Early childhood until around 5yrs old) I was surrounded by music. My Aunties and older cousins were gospel singers and I had uncles who played guitars, bass players and drums. I come from that, although I never sang a day in my life my gift came much later in life.

Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?

Big Rome: I’m an old soul from the Rick James Era, as I got older the streets led me to gangster rappers like NWA, Spice 1, Master P, Ice Cube, Tupac, UGK, Too Short and a host of others…

What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?

Big Rome: It’s never about fame, just acknowledgement to say I did my part in contributing to the Hip-Hop/Rap music movement. I want to get established enough to be able to finally take my rightful place as CEO of my own label and keep the dream alive.

What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?

Big Rome: I swear to you I’ve never been to a major concert before nor have I ever performed at one. I’ve performed at clubs, talent showcases before but that’s a different type of feel don’t really have any favorites from those experiences…

Your latest release is the EP ‘Mentally Disturbed / Scarred 4 Life’, what inspired this release? What’s it mean to you?

Big Rome: I dare to be different but that’s my life experience and I always speak truth in my music. It got personal but that’s what people want to here now days it’s different and relatable. I actually wrote and recorded this EP back in 2012… I was hesitant about releasing it so I sat on it… rolled out the single “Who I Am” by accident in 2013 and it got picked up by a publishing company and landed a placement in a Showtime original series “House Of Lies” (season 4 episode 8)

Also, you dropped a music video for the lead track ‘Who I Am’, which turned out amazing! What was the process like to create this video? Any more in the works?

Big Rome: it was simple, keep it original and real…

What do you think about the state of rap music today? With artists like you, it seems strong.

Big Rome: What I think and feel is controversial… There’s so much talent out here getting overlooked… The shady business deals on how recording deals are being structured… The drama with rap beefs that’s spilling over into the streets getting people hurt and killed… I could go on but what do I know I’m just an unsigned Arkansas Music Artist trying to find my lane and collect whatever checks that’s available in order to secure my spot in the industry…

What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?

Big Rome: You never know with me I release when I feel like it. That’s the enjoyment I get from being my on boss at Big Rome Entertainment LLC. Just know I still got a lot left in me I can still do it independently or maybe I could work out a legitimate deal with a major and they can assist in getting me to where I need to be… either way I’m in it for the long run!
